The AKC has extended a one-time offer to the Barbet Fanciers Club to increase registration. The Club may collect completed registration applications and supporting documents to be submitted at the end of the year. The new registrations will be accepted free of charge for the first year. The AKC will also reduce the number of registered dogs required for consideration as a fully recognized breed.

When importing a Barbet you will have several considerations. It is important to comply with United States government agency requirements (i.e. US Customs and Border Patrol, US Department of Agriculture, Center of Disease Control, and Department of Fish and Wildlife), airline policies, and AKC registration requirements. The AKC website has information to help you get started to compete in AKC events. If your Barbet is registered with the AKC Foundations Stock Service, you are eligible to compete in the AKC Companion Events – Obedience, Agility and Rally.
